Joseph Smith discovering the Golden Plates.
The Book of Mormon — A Voice from the Dust
The lid was off! As Joseph viewed the plates of gold the flinty surface of the stony box reflected bits of light; while deep within, the golden glow of truth shined forth. The words of Prophets, long since dead—boldly etched on sheets of precious gold, when once translated into each nation’s tongue—would change the world forevermore. For those who searched for God would hear His voice and find him there. (Isaiah 29:4; 2 Nephi 26:14-17).
All this because a humble boy, at home behind a plow, had sought for God, and found him, through a quiet, simple, prayer that echoed through the vaults of heaven, drawing forth the Father and the Son to greet him in a shaded wood, and teach him holy truths long lost to mortal man.
These holy words of hope, inscribed by Prophets long since dead, and brought to light through Joseph’s God-inspired hand, bear truths that promise joy and exaltation to the souls of men.
These things I know! To this I testify!
